Andrew and Denise had a Native Flora theme wedding in Donelly River, WA. We love how much of their wedding was DIY. We caught up with them to hear all about their wedding.

How did you guys meet?
We met through a mutual friend at university. It was only through a chance encounter where I almost did not go out, and we both missed the same train to the city, that something happened between us. Another friend there that night suggested that he saw sparks between us, and the rest was history.
What was the style of your wedding?
Our wedding was very Boho-native-rustic.
What inspired you to purchase Peggy and Finn products for your wedding day
Both of us have a passion for native flora, and Andrew is an Environmental Scientist. When I stumbled across the grey banksia ties, I knew it would be perfect!
Any special comments on the Groom & Groomsmen attire?
We definitely didn’t want something too formal, as it just wasn’t the style we were going for. Andrew wasn’t even sure if he would wear a suit at first! In the end, we went with blue (powder for him, and navy for the groomsmen) suit jackets with light tan chinos and brown leather shoes. Andrew himself opted for Blundies (Blundstone) as they were his favourite shoes he wore all the time – and really said something about his personality! Everyone loved the Native Flora Ties.
Tell us what was unique about your day?
I think it was definitely the fact that so many things were DIY, by us and our friends and family helping, that it really felt like a personable affair. Besides the florist, photographer, caterer, videographer and photobooth, everything else was done on our own. Ceremony – we harvested our own timber for the arbour (which was made by Andrew), we got our own hay bales and cloth for the seating, and the signing table and outdoor reception furniture were made by us and our friends using wooden pallets. I even made all the wedding signage on my own, and we had eucalyptus foliage harvested from Andrew’s parents farm to decorate the reception area. The whole event, plus with the special heritage location in the karri forest, really made the event felt truly like us.
What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?
Mine would be when I walked down the aisle and saw all our guests at the ceremony location, and my closest friends were all tearing up (even the blokes!).
Words of wisdom, What advice would you give to other couples who are planning their wedding day?
On the day itself, if something doesn’t go according to plan, don’t fret about it, and concentrate about the real reason for the wedding, and focus on your partner and the love you have for each other. Nothing else matters. And if something did go wrong, it makes a good laugh in the future.
Tell us who was part of your tribe:
I had my sister (Kylie) as the bridesmaid, and my childhood best friend (Kathleen) was my maid of honour. Andrew had two of his childhood best friends (Jayben & Samuel) and another best friend from high school (Ben) as his groomsmen.
